WhatsApp to let users move chat data without Google Drive Support

WhatsApp is working on a feature that will let users transfer their chat history from their old Android device to a new one without having the need to back up the data on Google Drive, WaBetaInfo reported. The chat transfer feature will work through a QR code, it stated. The feature is reportedly being developed for a future WhatsApp update.

How Android users can Backup Chat Data without the help of Google Drive Support?

Back in July, WhatsApp had rolled out an update that allowed people to move chats to iOS from Android using an app known as the Move to iOS app. This meant that users could easily switch their smartphones without worrying about losing their older chats. Whatsapp is continually evolving to improve user experience, and according to WaBetaInfo, a new chat transfer option is currently under development that will let you move the entire chat history to Android devices.

What is WhatsApp’s new chat transfer feature?

The new feature will help users transfer their chat history from one Android device to another one without having to first create a backup of the same on Google Drive. The new chat transfer option can be found within WhatsApp Settings > Chats in the future. All you need to do is enable the option to be able to use the feature.

It is important to note that even with this feature, it does make sense to update your chats on Google Drive so that your data doesn’t disappear due to a mishap.

When will WhatsApp’s new chat transfer feature rollout?

The new chat transfer feature is said to be intended for a future update of the app. At this point, it is not clear when the update will be rolled out to the masses.

The feature is still in development but we can announce that WhatsApp is actively working to further develop and improve upon the chat transfer feature for Android devices as we’ve discovered additional details about its functionality thanks to the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.1.26 update:

As you can see in this screenshot, the process is straightforward and begins by downloading WhatsApp on the new Android device. After opening WhatsApp on the new phone, we should scan the provided QR code to initiate the chat history migration to the new Android device. In our opinion, this feature will provide a convenient and efficient solution for those seeking to transfer their chat history to a new Android phone without backing up their chats and media on Google Drive, as it streamlines the process and allows for a faster migration.

Final Thoughts on WhatsApp’s new chat transfer feature

WhatsApp is developing the chat transfer option for a future update of the app. As we said in our previous article, we don’t know when it will be released to users since it is under development but we plan to publish an additional article when we have some more details to share with you.
